How the EV Charging Cost is Calculated

Step 1: Net Energy Required (kWh)

First, the tool computes the net capacity to be added to the battery pack:

Net kWh = Usable Battery (kWh) × (Target% - Start%) ÷ 100

Then it factors in real-world charging losses (12% for AC wallboxes, 7% for DC fast stations) to compute the grid units drawn from the meter.

Step 2: Total Session Bill (₹)

The total units billed are multiplied by the applicable electricity tariff:

Total Cost (₹) = Total Grid Energy (kWh) × Tariff Rate (₹/kWh)

Worked Example: A Tata Nexon EV with a 40.5 kWh battery charging 10% to 80% on Home AC draws approx 31.75 kWh @ ₹8.00/unit = ₹254.00.
